The plan

We aim to buy property of around 80-120 hectares to create a community with between 80 and 100 adults and their children.

Ideally, it would be partly bush, partly farmland. Houses would be built in seven to 10 clusters as hamlets around a village centre. Each hamlet would take no more than 0.5 hectare and accommodate 10 to 15 adults each. The whole village would be less than eight hectares in area.

The members of each cluster may organise their hamlet in their own fashion. However, it is anticipated that each cluster would usually have shared infrastructure and facilities, such as a common water supply, energy and waste systems; shared lounge, dining and laundry facilities; and common vegetable garden and a single car parking area.

Management of the remainder of the property would be by the whole community. Community facilities are anticipated to include a hall for workshops and meetings, office accommodation and studios, child minding facilities and a cafe/food coop.

Our plans have been inspired by and based up on the experience of Moora Moora Cooperative Community in Healesville, Victoria.
