Farming

The community will engage in ecologically-sustainable agricultural practices designed to improve the quality of the farm land and its rural character.

Using a natural approach to plant production, we will attempt to reproduce a natural balanced ecosystem. This approach relies on rebuilding soil fertility, biodiversity and predator-prey relationships.

Organic farming methods will be used, precluding the use of toxic pest controls and chemical fertilizers.

Plants will be selected that grow naturally in very similar climatic and soil conditions.

A diversity of deep and shallow rooted crops will be grown, including nitrogen fixing legumes, and cultivated using no-till soil management techniques.

Water efficient irrigation systems will be used, together with the continuous soil cover of either green manure crops and/or mulches, to make best use of water.
